Sincerity & Faithfulness

“Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness.”

My devotional lead me to Joshua this weekend. As I sat on my deck Sunday morning, I read the stern talking to Joshua gave to the leaders of Tribes of Israel. I am guessing there was some stuff going on in their lives that ultimately caused them to forget what the Lord had done for them and in turn they picked some random gods to worship maybe even worshipping themselves as the gods of their own lives. Just guessing. Josh brings it waaaay back. Like any good story he starts with “Long ago…”. He brings to their remembrance Abraham, then Jacob and Esau, Moses and Aaron, remember what happened there guys something with some water and the Egyptians getting washed away, then the Amorites fought you and even though they were bigger and stronger you crushed them. It goes on and on. Then Joshua, with words spoken straight from the Lord himself, says “I gave you a land on which you had not labored and cities that you had not built, and you dwell in them. You eat the fruit of vineyards and olive orchards that you did not plant. Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness.”

Dear Jesus Our Father in Heaven, Thank you for the land and the city and the Greenhouse that we did not have to labor for and we did not have to build. Thank you for the sweet fruit that is grown here for our consumption that YOU planted Father. Bring to our remembrance today all that you have brought us through and show us a glimpse of the path that is set before us. May we seek you in sincerity and faithfulness today.

Amen,

Rach
