Board Member Prayer

“The quieter you become, the more you can hear.” ― Ram Dass

I’ll be honest. I pray. Fairly often. But probably not often enough...

That being said, I’m sure I don’t often listen. It’s the constant chatter of life that renders me deaf to what God is often trying to tell me. I am in what feels like a perpetual race. Between caring for our kids, attempting to be a good wife, keeping up a household, work, and other commitments, I don’t spend enough time listening to what God is trying to tell me.

But I’m reminded in profound ways He is listening and responding. Not in blatant and obvious ways, but He is revealing subtle hints.

Last month I had a conversation with a woman who attended the Hope Street Luncheon. She explained her “race”, a new mother, a wife and a busy career that has the potential to take more than one direction. She explained she turned to prayer for answers, the Lord told her to, “be still”. Before I knew it I blurted out, “I don’t know how to do that”.

Days later, I sat in yoga class, remembering that conversation. I started asking how I could be “still”...not just because it was kinda required for the Yoga position I had twisted myself into...but because I really needed an answer. Just as I was praying internally, “how can I be still God?” Our instructor broke the temporary silence in the room and said three words.

Gratitude, wonder and awe.

It was in that stillness, I was reminded, if we don’t spend time being STILL we miss the opportunity to practice GRATITUDE, to Him and to others. If we’re not STILL we miss the incredible WONDER He has shown us. If we’re not STILL how can we ever be in AWE of Him?

Lord, help us all remember to be still. To quiet our minds, to be better listeners, to sit and allow our souls and spirits digest gratitude, wonder and awe.

Psalm 46:10

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth.”

Blessings,
