Are We There Yet?

Almost every family has endured a trip where that one person in the back seat continues to ask: “are we there yet”. And yes, maybe that person was you (or the voice inside your head).

For me, these past few weeks have been a lot like that family road trip, yet I am the one asking “are we there yet”. This Friday, we are hosting our 4th Annual Family Reunion Fundraiser and I could not be more excited for a couple of different reasons. I am excited for my closest friends and family to come together and join me in celebrating a place and group of people that have had such an impact on my life in a short amount of time. Having attended this event in years past, this is my first time being a part of the actual planning, preparation, and production. I must say, it has not been all glitz and glam. Our staff and wonderful committee have put a lot of hard work into making this a night to remember. Needless to say, I am also excited because the day of the event means we ARE there. In other words, no more late night committee meetings. No more back and forth emails and phone calls with event planners. No more long days of filming.

As I reminisced on all of the things that have taken place in order to make this night possible, I could not help but think about a quote I always used to see: “It is not about the destination. It’s about the journey.” This could not hold more true! Yes, our committee would often meet late at night, yet this was an opportunity for a group of women to come together, eat food, enjoy each other’s company and plan an event for something that we all shared a passion for. Yes, we had a series of emails and phone calls with numerous people, yet this was a chance for me to meet and get to know many individuals who have been key components in sharing Hope Street’s story. And last but not least, yes, we had some LONG days of filming, yet there is nothing like seeing our members get “camera ready” and laugh at Van putting on his sunglasses or Mark posing on the ground.

All in all, the journey towards the Family Reunion has presented a number of memorable moments. Ones that I will never forget nor take lightly.

God, please help us to not always get caught up in the destination. I thank you for every teachable, laughable, and memorable moment that you have placed into my life throughout this journey towards the Family Reunion. Thank you for every individual who has contributed towards making this night possible. I pray that once we ARE there, we just put it all in your hands, Lord.

Amen, Brooke.
