Surprise

Surprise: an unexpected or astonishing event, fact, or thing.
As a kid, many of us loved surprises. Maybe I should take that back. We all tend to love surprises no matter what age you are (I know there are potentially a few disagreeing with this). Lately, I have noticed an increase in the amount of surprises taking place. No I am not referencing the surprise of the global health pandemic we are in, or toilet paper being absent on shelves, or the fact we are being asked to refrain from leaving our homes. The surprises I am referring to are much more invaluable. It is the look on a mother’s face upon entering her apartment for the first time. The monetary donations we have received which are exceeding what we could imagine in the midst of many facing financial hardships. Members completely paying off their back pay in membership fees while another announces she got a car!
Throughout the bible are stories full of surprises: Jesus healing a blind man, turning water into wine, and feeding 5000 with just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. Each one is a prime example of God’s never ending presence. This too is a representation of the surprises taking place at Hope Street each and every day. They are a reminder that God is always at work.
Father I thank you for each one of your beautiful surprises. It is remarkable to see how you continue to change the lives of our members in so many ways. I ask that you continue to bless each and every person who steps through Hope Street’s doors. Allow them to experience the beauty of your love. Thank you for continuing to protect and provide for our community Lord in so many ways-ways that we could never have foreseen or anticipated.
Amen, Brooke.
