rest is delightful

"Keep the Sabbath day holy. Don’t pursue your own interests on that day, but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the LORD’s holy day. Honor the Sabbath in everything you do on that day, and don’t follow your own desires or talk idly. Then the LORD will be your delight." Isaiah 58:13

As a 'do-it-all' kind of woman, when I hear the word rest, I don't automatically associate it with 'delightful.' Oftentimes, it causes a big sigh from within, because it is just another thing on my to-do list that often doesn't get checked off. Yes, I need it. Yes, I want it. But logistically, it's really not possible.

But my perspective has shifted over the past several months as we have been integrating a Sabbath day into our regular work schedules. I have found myself truly delighted at the idea of rest. Not just physical rest, but true soul-rest that aligns my heart with the Lord. I am so thankful for how He knows what we need (rest), and not only provides that for us, but also becomes what we need and truly desire: our delight.

Jesus,

We need you. We need the rest and the joy that only comes from being in Your presence. Thank you for Your word and how relevant it is to us, centuries later. You are so good to us. Thank you for always providing what we need and blessing us with an abundance of the things we desire. Help us desire You more. Help us want the things that bring honor and glory to you, and not us. You are our delight, and we rest in You.

Amen.
