The Power of the Vine

“This is my son who flew in from out of state to surprise me! And these are my two grandbabies who I’ve never met until today!” Last week, this introduction from a Homes member brought me to tears. This member has faced family being torn apart–both through the consequences of choices and circumstances outside their control. They’ve faced dark trials and deep joys even in the few short months since joining the Greenhouse for People. Standing there in the space we call The Vine, being invited by them to share in this restorative experience, along with other members and staff, is a moment I don’t ever want to forget.
Just a few hours earlier that same day, we also received a message from a former member who had relapsed last year and left. For months, we’d wondered about this person’s whereabouts and prayed. Their message that morning shared an update for their Hope Street family that they’re in recovery and said, “Thanks for the prayers, love and support.” While that message came through from a distance, they felt just as close as the other member who stood in The Vine introducing their reunited family. These moments of connection…belonging…are only possible because of the actual Vine (Father God).
Father God, thank You that in Your perfect grace and goodness You invite us to abide. Thank You for being near, both in long months of worried wonderings and also in the unexpectedly joyful moments. Thank You for providing space for each of us to experience this kind of belonging. Help us to always walk in remembrance of Your goodness.
Amen,
Jamie
