Amplifying Prayer

Sometimes I just want to air out all the hard things without finding the silver lining. There are times where I don’t feel like saying, “but I know you have it.” I just want to lay it all out there and say, “so deal with it.” But even in writing this, I have this guttural feeling to point out the redeeming things. If someone gets in a fight, my head goes to we’ve kept so many safe. If someone relapses, I hear, we’ve stopped so many other people from not. If someone struggles, someone else finds hope. If I’m feeling down, it’s okay because you got me. My head is constantly balancing things out and pointing to you.

Even though I can balance it out, more prayer is needed, because lately I find myself tiring of doing it. Supporters joining in prayer amplifies the good here and continues to build Hope Street stronger. We need:

  • Safety. Violence has no place here.

  • More trusted volunteers and staff to provide structure and support

  • Funding to come easy so we can put our focus on people

  • Safe homes and stability for adults and kids

  • Hard emotions to not lead to poor behaviors

  • To feel supported by one another

  • To know we are loved by you.

  • To see each other’s perspectives

  • To stop seeing so many negative things happening around us, in media, in music

  • To stop hurting one another

  • To understand Hope Street’s culture

  • Freedom from drugs and alcohol

  • To be honest and respectful

  • Pathways towards better mental health

  • To see you, God

Hope Street is set apart as good, but when hard things do happen, they are devastating and fear-inducing. When they pile up, it’s tiring pointing back to the good, so help us do that. We need prayer, God. We need you.

Amen,

Kendall (Shechem Director)
