A couple of months ago, I was processing a sad experience with my mentor in a virtual meeting. Sharing about a former member who had relapsed–the sadness over the whole situation, the things I saw and the fact that in that dark moment this individual wasn’t aware of how beloved they were. The moment felt dark and heavy.

While in this meeting, little Chosyn came running to the glass door of my office. I tried just giving a little wave…thinking she would understand and run off. But at 2 years old, she didn’t get why I was “ignoring” her. I told my mentor I needed a moment, went to the door and asked Chosyn if she wanted to come see who I was meeting with on my computer. She sat with me for a couple of minutes, chattering in her little way, hugged me and then ran out. I called out, “I love ya, Chosyn!” and she responded with “luh you too!” I shut the door and sat back at my computer where my mentor with tears in her eyes simply said “the way you see Chosyn is the way God sees that person you were just sharing about.”

God, you are so good. Thank you for bringing us into remembrance of who (and most importantly Whose) we are. In the haze of our fears, addictions, unhealthy thoughts and life patterns, and forgetting who we are–thank you for inviting us to draw close and abide. To belong.

Thank you for not despising us in our mess–but rather coming alongside us and drawing us near. Thank you that this person circled back through a phone call. Please watch over each of our hearts and minds and help us never lose sight of Your goodness in the midst of our mess. Thank You for inviting us to live as chosen and beloved.

Amen
